Where to start, where to start... Doug was phenomenal. He loves what he does, and it was a sheer joy watching my piano, which had suffered some neglect due to disuse and a move across the country, be repaired and tuned by this skilled technician. 
When I first viewed his website, I was a little skeptical. What piano tuner in his right mind lets you set your own price? I had already called some tuners/repairmen in the area and was baffled by their prices - $85 just to come out, $120 for a tuning plus $50 if the pitch had to be raised, and $35 for each repaired key! I was seriously looking at close to $400 or more, and I just could not do that right now. Doug repaired my keys for the price of the tuning. He said it was included, but I couldn't help it, I had to pay him a little extra. Even with that, I probably saved close to $200. He was such a pleasure to work with. 
Such a nice guy, and I will recommend him to everyone I know with a piano. Since moving to L.A., I've been greatly helped by the Yelp community. So now it's my turn to return the favor.

Wow, I am so enjoying my piano. Everything i play sounds fresh and new and wonderful. I hadn't realized the reason I no longer enjoyed playing... the piano sucked! Both in sound and feel. My piano is over 65 years old. It was left to me by my parents it was moved from New York to California and no one has played it for 45 years.
I wanted to get the piano tuned as my grandchildren wish to play. I found Doug's website on a Google search. After I read it, I immediately knew that Doug Freeze (if he was real) was the perfect person for the job.
He took care of my piano as if it were a priceless Steinway. He took it apart,found some pennies that my brother and I put in it for safe keeping in 1945. Then he tuned and returned my piano to perfect shape with the love and care of a true professional.
He is the best, I promise you. If you ever need a recommendation please use me as a reference.

Hi Doug,

I played for about an hour after you left, and it honestly felt a little 'strange' at first; but after about 20 minutes I realized that strange feeling was just my piano finally being in tune! I had to get used to it, but it sounds better than I remember (probably since it was new).

Doug was really great when he showed up for my appointment. He was on time, and worked very efficiently. He also didn't mind the many questions I asked during the process. And, I learned a few things about my piano! Since it was handed down in the family, I didn't have much history on it. But Doug seemed just as interested as me when we found out where it came from and it's year. He also reassured me that it was in great shape and that I should be able to play my piano for many, many more years. Doug carries a genuine love of the instrument as he does his tuning. It's easy to tell that this is not just a regular job for him, but one that he thoroughly enjoys. It's rare to find someone who would continue to do what his does, whether he gets paid or not. How many can say that about their own jobs? However, as a consumer, ultimately what's important is how good Doug is at his job. Doug has a well-trained ear and a gift for tuning, which meant my money was well spent. Doug is a true lover of music and someone that I'll call again when my piano needs a little help!

Doug was wonderful!  He had my two kids, ages 6 and 4, "help" him the whole time, which undoubtedly took twice as long as it would have without their help -- but the kids had a terrific time (and maybe learned something about how a piano works in the process).  Doug apparently has an infinite supply of patience, and is an all around good guy.

This is Rod from Ojai... a few months ago, you came up and met my wife Jessica. You tuned our old upright piano, and helped us fix it with some parts you so generously sent us.
I am finally getting around to thanking you for a truly beautiful job. I got the piano from my mom, and it the same one I took lessons on when I was 7 years old. I don't recall having it ever sound at perfect as it does now after your visit. You resurrected the soul of this instrument. We both just can't thank you enough for your help. The parts you sent were a percect fit, and I've gotten all the keys working agian. It's so nice to have the old spinnet playable again! You helped me reconnect with that was becoming a fading memory of childhood, and my wife with learning a little piano and vocals (using the piano to learn and practice scales).
The sound from our piano now glows with the grace of someone who truly loves this instrument, and knows full well the spirit any particular piano can harbor.

Getting my piano tuned by Doug Freeze was a total pleasure. He is a joy to interact with and does a totally pro job. I have used many piano tuners on both east and west coasts over a great many years. Frequently I have found my piano tuned a bit sour and the tuner on the defensive when I ask him to recheck it. Doug got it right the first time! I recommend him to anyone.
